None of us knew what the year 2021 had in store for us.
In that unknowing, none of us were prepared. The shift worker industries we know, and love, have taken huge hits and yet daily we see the massive good other humans are doing to help their industries and local communities. Like you, we know we cannot do everything or help everyone, the point is to do what we can, when we can, to the best of our ability. It is from this place of caring that ShedWool created the ShedWool Shift Worker Community.
The ShedWool Shift Worker Community provides resources in the greater Chicago area and beyond, with Food Banks listed by region, information on unemployment, and opportunities to volunteer or donate to organizations working to make a difference. Every little bit counts, because we are all in this together.
We are happy to share with you some of the good happening within the shift worker industries. McDonalds, in the U.S., has donated $3.1 million in food to support local communities, made commitments to support truck drivers across the country, donated 1 million N95 masks to Chicago and donated $1 million to the Illinois COVID-19 Response Fund. Jersey Mike’s, across the nation, franchise owners are donating millions of subs to local hospitals and first responders, according to a company press release. Additionally, Jersey Mike’s teamed up with Feeding America to donate 20% of sales, at least $1 million, to help the Feeding America nationwide network of 200 food banks.
While some industries are in the midst of the ‘Great Pause’ others are increasing their efforts and taking on new endeavors. The ShedWool Shift Worker Community page also offers job board listings for those looking for other opportunities.
While the world continues to flex and change into the ‘new normal,’ ShedWool will be here to share information, highlight stories on those bringing hope and joy to their industries and communities, and contribute our own good vibes with helpful tips and techniques.
